Here is a wedding for the color lovers, the DIY brides and the scrabble lovers! Fred and Lisa’s Yellow Grey DIY wedding was a beautiful outdoor wedding with an indoor reception. From the Decor to the fact that Bride Lisa majorly went into full DIY mode here, everything about this wedding is pretty amazing. Oh and their story definitely makes the list!
According to Lisa, because she needed to be involved in every aspect of her wedding, she put in countless hours of research to find cost effective ways to have her dream wedding and stay within the budget. In order to do this, she became a Do It Yourself (DIY) bride.
“Fred and I met at a seafood restaurant. He was visiting family and lived in another state. I ordered food to go and he was pulling up to pick up his order. As I walked out the restaurant, Fred saw me. He was mesmerized by my beauty and had to say something to me. I walked to my vehicle which was parked next to his. He got my attention by complimenting me. I’m usually not impressed by compliments but his conversation and love for God was clear.
That very day I had prayed to God asking Him to allow me to meet someone special. God told me to be open so I exchanged phone numbers with him which is something I rarely did. We became good friends and travelled back and forth between the two states. Our love grew for one another and now we are married. Thank you, Jesus!” – Lisa
The printing, cutting, gluing and embellishing of all the paper products were done by the Bride – Lisa. Those paper products the invitations, response cards, directions, family and friends letter, menus, place cards, programs and liners, table number signs, candy bar tags and banner, seating chart and drink signs.
How did you choose your Venue?
“When choosing a venue, beauty and cost were the main factors. I fell in love with the beauty of the backdrop of the golf course at Canyon Crest Country Club. The panoramic windows in the main ballroom overlooking the lush green, offers a nice view for guests.
The club offers a variety of all-inclusive wedding packages to meet any bride’s budget. I envisioned a romantic intimate wedding and Canyon Crest was perfect for us. As we got closer to the wedding, we were glad we chose Canyon Crest Country Club. The chef and food are amazing. As I sampled potential menu selections, they were accommodating in setting up tastings for every dish I wished to taste. My guests enjoyed the appetizers and meal selections. They nailed the food!”
“As the bride, my favorite memory was walking down the aisle to become the wife of the man of my dreams. It is funny that the groom chose the same moment. His favorite memory was me walking down the aisle to become his wife.”
“There were other DIY projects I completed. I also purchased several bolts of yellow and grey satin fabric, white voile fabric, and yellow David Tutera fabric. I cut the bolts in half and sewed hems in all the fabric to drape the windows of the venue and ceremony site.
I also made pillows and sewed the fabric for the chuppah. I used PVC pipe, glass vases, quick set cement, and spray paint and to complete the structure of the chuppah. I bought voile curtains and fabric to drape the chuppah.”
“I also embellished the cylinders that held the floral arrangements using silver diamond rhinestone ribbon wrap and satin black and grey ribbon. I filled the cylinders with clear water beads and silver acrylic rocks. I also used floating candles, terrarium bulbs, under water lights, glass candles sticks, tea light candles and votives to help bring out the romance theme.”
Any Wedding Planning Advice?
“One piece of advice I would give to myself would be to let go of certain projects and delegate them to others. I am a perfectionist and a control freak. I was afraid to assign tasks to others in fear they would not be perfect. So, I did everything myself.
I understand now, that it would have been less stressful if I had taken my friends up on their offers to help out. One piece of advice the groom would give to himself is to relax and not allow anything to stress him out. Also, to continually encourage the bride-to-be that all things will fall into place and work out by staying in prayer.”
“Planning my wedding involved hard work and attention to detail. My vision along with the expertise of Au’Gust Soirees Event Planning allowed me to sit down with Wedding Planner, Shanikqua Freeman to design all paper products used for my wedding. Shanikqua’s professionalism and eloquent touch helped to set my wedding apart from others.
Au’Gust Soirees assisted me in designing and preparing all of my paper documents for printing. Shanikqua’s open line of communication allowed me to feel comfortable with the final documents printed for my big day. Having a person who has beautiful ideas and a natural talent for décor, is why I selected Au’Gust Soirees. I cannot say enough about the exemplary service I received. The communication was excellent and the weekly meetings leading up to my event helped ease the anxiety of my wedding.”
