Norfolk County Wedding Styled Shoot

“In a small lakeside town nestled into the shores of Norfolk County you’ll find Port Dover, Ontario, the home of this stunning winter styled shoot. Norfolk County as a whole has become a booming seasonal wedding destination, with a phenomenal emphasis on agriculture, wineries, craft breweries and unique mom and pop shops and venues. Norfolk County is known as “Ontario’s Garden” and has a stellar reputation as a destination location regardless of the occasion.

In the late Fall of this year Chantelle Edwards of C & E Collective and Amy Martin of Forty-Two Eighty Events, sat down at their favorite coffee shop and carefully crafted a plan to put Norfolk County and it’s hidden gems on the map for brides and grooms who are interested in stepping outside the traditional norms of summer season weddings.

The shoot itself took place at “Clonmel Castle” a stunning Georgian style home built in 1929 on top of a hill to overlook Port Dover in its entirety after the First World War. This exact corner of town played a significant roll in the war of 1812 when Port Dover was invaded by an American raid and lit fire to the Nichol’s Mill not far from the property that Clonmel now sits on. The original owner of the house, Harry Barrett Sr, who is the grandfather of location MPP Toby Barrett built the Estate with an inheritance from a relative who lived in the town of Clonmel, Ireland.

Fast forward to present day, the 12,000 square feet of blissful architecture, character and historic charm are still very much alive in this beautifully restored home. The allurement of the concrete walls, original crown moulding, flooring, spiral stairwell, bathrooms and select pieces of furniture make this home a must see, and a unique wedding venue for the bride and groom who is a step ahead of the others. Events and weddings can be found taking place on the three acres of land. The backdrop of the property makes any wedding photographers dreams come true with stone fencing, a demanding hilltop presence, english gardens and nearby water fall of Ivey’s Dam. Clonmel is truly a picturesque location and a charming venue.”

“Norfolk County is filled with skillful wedding professionals who are able to pull off a styled shoot with ease and still managed to tackle our vision of elegant, personal, romantic and vintage with complete confidence. Considering the shoot was early December, we were blessed with a warm but overcast dark day for the outdoor themed shoot.

Our florist, Steffi hand crafted pieces using a variety of textures, deep rich colours and long romantic wisps of greenery. Our decorator, Bobbi Jo lit long tapered candle sticks and let the wax pour over onto the original concrete steps of the castles porch. She dug deep into her personal storage to find her own pieces of gold silverware her mother gifted her as a young girl. We were able to use unique antique pieces that date back as far as the 1920’s if not earlier, like the dining room chairs that came with the home which are highlighted in the table shots. We think there is something nostalgic about handling antique furniture, something that takes you back to your childhood and comforts you even if it was crafted before your time. That was the feeling that filled the day at Clonmel Castle.

Later in the afternoon as the wind picked up and the temperature cooled we were able to take the chill off inside the castle with a warm cup of tea compliments of our wonderful hostess and the chatelaine Lyneee. Our local ‘cake boss’ Robin delivered multiple glamorous cakes with sugar berries and twigs of greenery. Our make up artists, Amanda stopped by for a quick touch up as did Katie our hair stylists and we switched the real life couple Josh and Sierra off into their second outfits for the day.

As the candles blew out and the silverware was tucked away, we moved the original chairs back into the luxurious Clonmel dining room, the only home they’ve ever known we called a wrap to our winter styled shoot. For the rest of us, it’s proof that love lives in the hills of Clonmel Castle and we can’t wait to get back there and work a wedding in the near future.”
