As you all know, here on Knotsvilla we are crazy about theme-ful weddings, so when we received Katie and Jesse’s vintage rustic wedding submission, it was like we just landed in wedding heaven!
This wedding surely adds some new flavor to the wedding scene and we have Fowler Studios to thank for sending it our way! A wedding that perfectly combines traditional and offbeat themes; Red roses, cowboy boots, hand-lettering and shotgun shells have really never looked so good.
About the Proposal
“Jesse’s proposal took me by complete surprise. It was New Years Eve. He made it an all day event, first he took me to the Norfolk Aquarium to see the sea otters. Sea Otters are my favorite animals and I had been asking him to take me to see them for months. While at the museum he bought me a sea otter stuffed animal because I’ve always called him my “Otter” half.
After the aquarium we headed home, Jesse dropped me off at my house and told me to get “dolled up” for that night. Jesse took me to Bonefish Grill for dinner, followed by brief appearance at his church’s annual New Years Eve party. After the party, just before midnight Jesse surprised me by taking me to Yorktown Beach because the beach is my favorite place in the whole world, to celebrate the ball drop, just me and him. He even had sparkling cider for us to drink!
We sat outside shivering in the freezing cold counting down together; When the ball dropped Jesse didn’t lean in to kiss me, he dropped down to one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I was in complete shock, it was one of the most incredibly surreal moments of my life. It was perfect in every way.”
About the Vintage Rustic Wedding
Bride Katie loves everything Audrey Hepburn, Classic, Vintage, Line Dancing & Glitter. Her Husband loves outdoors-y things, hunting, four-wheelers, & camping. So as she planned her gorgeous wedding she tried her best to incorporate everything both of them love. That’s how their vintage, rustic theme came to life.
Bride Katie with the help of her best friend and matron of honor, Rachael created their wedding monogram which was used on their wedding invitations as well as decorations for the wedding. Katie hand painted the monogram to represent both of them; the antlers were to represent Jesse, the flowers were to represent her, and the “M” was for their new last name.
“Another way I incorporated Jesse’s love for hunting, was to have shot gun shell name card holder. We even found gold ones to match our theme. I couldn’t just have the same old bride and groom name tags or Mr. and Mrs. Our tags said Jesse & Jesse’s girl. Although we are young we still appreciate great 80’s hits, especially Jessie’s Girl. It was the song playing in the background when were introduced as Mr. & Mrs. Jesse Marlowe!”
Katie had as much gold glitter as she could without being too over the top with it. All of their wood slab centerpieces were hand-made by one of the girlfriend’s husband. Each center piece was topped with flowers, a variety of mason jars, some blue, some with gold glitter, tea light and tables numbers that reflected their wedding monogram to tie everything together.
Jesse’s family was kind enough to cook all of the food for the wedding. They served hot of the the smoker Carolina Style Barbecue (which according to Katie, is to die for!), homemade macaroni & cheese, green beans, baked beans, and rolls. To add the rustic feel, all of their guests drank out of mason jars.
And then they took some selfies with the selfie-station they had instead of a photo-booth. The selfie station was complete with hand painted props and signs to have a little extra wedding day fun.
“One of my absolutely favorite photos of our INCREDIBLE day isn’t even a picture of my husband and I; it is the photo of cowgirl boots and flowers! My bridesmaids and I all changed shoes after the ceremony and wore cowgirl boots for the rest of the night, followed by line dancing. My grandmothers even surprised me that day as they both bought cowgirl boots too to wear for the reception.”
Wedding Planning Advice
“My biggest piece of advice would be to just RELAX and enjoy your day! Don’t let your nerves get to you. Don’t let your emotions get the best of you. Don’t let planning stress you out. Don’t let anyone or anything ruin your day. At the end of the day you will still be married and that’s all that matters.”
“I do have to say Fowler Studios did the most incredible job of capturing all of the details of our wedding day. Susan absolutely captured all of the emotions of my wedding day. I tear up every time I look at our pictures. I have received so many compliments in regards to my wedding photography.
Susan and Josh were an absolute delight to work with I would highly recommend them to everyone. They captured every moment I asked for. My wedding would not nearly as memorable if I didn’t have the hard work of Fowler Studios to document all of it.”
