Rustic Farm Virginia Wedding | Luke & Ashley Photography

Give a stunning rustic wedding as this any day and I’d snag it right up! Caitlin and Pete set the bar high with their Rustic Farm Virginia wedding with details such as the venue, decor and their colors. Shades of Blue, mixed with a lot of white and hints of greenery gave their outdoor summer wedding a very modern rustic vibe.

Rustic Farm Virginia Wedding

When: Aug 19th 2017 | Where: Richmond, VA | Theme: Rustic | Colors: Blue, Navy Blue, White |

“When we went to visit our venue for the first time, Pete immediately said “I can see myself marrying you here,” and that was all I needed. It was simple, yet elegant, and constantly changing to get more improved as the days went on. We loved the rustic theme, and went with burlap and wood and metal decor. We had a lot of hand painted signs (thanks, Dad!), and personal touches. Our colors were based around hydrangeas, with the soft blue in my girls dresses, with the pop of navy for the guys, and lots and lots of white and greenery.”

Wedding Attire

“The guys were in Navy Blue, and my girls in Steel Blue (Versa by David’s Bridal). The steel blue was soft and summery, and the navy paired well. The guys had Cognac colored shoes and belts, and their ties (from Target!) matched with the girls’ dresses.

The girls had diamond earrings, and you couldn’t see their shoes, but they all had (white) gold sandals of some sort. My sisters gifted me with Kate Spade Keds (white, wedding collection). My white dress was from a consignment shop, and I never even looked at the tag…I just knew it was perfect when I saw it on the hanger.”

What was the most important to the two of you while planning?

“While we were planning, we really had all of our guests in mind. We kept thinking about how we wanted them to have just as good of a time as we wanted to have. We decided to forego a videographer, but we did splurge on a horse drawn carriage and an (almost!) open bar. We also got a shuttle for the guests staying at a particular hotel.”

Wedding Flowers

“My bouquet was hydrangeas and roses, and greenery! My girls had white and blue and green hydrangeas and greenery! Their were touches of baby’s breath throughout the ceremony and reception, and the hydrangeas made their way throughout the entire venue.”

Wedding Cake

“Our dear friend, Cara Perkins, gifted our wedding cake to us. It was a pound cake (her family recipe) lightly frosted with buttercream frosting. The top tier is in our freezer, and the bottom tier was sliced and eaten by us and our guests.

Everyone who ate a piece RAVED about the cake. (Fun fact: Cara’s aunt made Cara’s wedding cake, so Cara was able to share her family tradition with us). It was decorated with some greenery and hydrangea and displayed on a wooden stand.”

Wedding Favors – Edible

“We had a Cookie Bar! My mom set up a cookie bar with lots of different cookies, and little brown bags for people to take home (the bar included Pete’s favorite Lemon Oreo cookie).”

DIY/Handmade/Personal Details

“My dad hand wrote every sign at our wedding, from the ceremony signs, to the reception signs. The Bar menu, our welcome signs, our programs and menus.

I handmade our wedding program fans, and created the seating chart on an old window. My shoes had patches with both my grandparents’ wedding dates, my parents’ wedding date, and with mine!

I tied a little blue bag to my bouquet, filled with both my grandmothers’ engagement rings, and a grandmother’s favorite cross necklace. I had handkerchiefs with blue from my great grandmother on my mom’s side, and Peter’s great great grandmother on his mom’s side.”

Wedding Planning Advice

“DO NOT STRESS THE SMALL STUFF! Plan with plenty of advance notice. ASK FOR HELP! Sometimes it’s okay to step away from planning if it’s causing any tense feelings or stress. Do what you want, but be willing to listen to other ideas and opinions (trust me, my mom was SO right about so many things).”
