We are excited to share our first real couple for the month with this beach picnic engagement session by Ben and Jodi Photography. I remember seeing the photographers tweet a photo and I knew I had to see the rest and publish it on this blog! What I was not aware was the amazing story of this couple we got along with the submission – who wins a free wedding? They did!
Read along for more details on how they landed a FREE wedding worth $30, 000!
“Ben and I met at Lembo’s Italian Restaurant where we were both employed. I have to thank my best friend (and maid of honor) for this coincidence. She had applied to Lembo’s (before I landed the job) and received a call for an interview. However, she had already begun working at another restaurant at that time. Rather than simply turning the job down, she called me immediately knowing that I was looking for work as well. I called Lembo’s management and they told me to come to Shade’s interview to replace her. I got the job and met Ben on my first day of work. We immediately hit it off at the pizza oven (debating whether or not one’s headlights on their car would appear while traveling at the speed of light)…weird, I know!
Needless to say, our philosophical conversation continued in the parking lot of Lembo’s until 5:00 am (then I rushed home, scared that my mom would realize that her daughter was missing). I truly believe that Ben and I were meant to cross paths. I would have never applied to work in Akron (because of the distance from my house), nor had I ever heard of Lembo’s Italian Restaurant in my life! But somehow I got a job there and met the love of my life!” – Samantha
“Ben and I started dating within a month of meeting and it wasn’t long before we talked about marriage and how many kids we would have. We actually bought each other promise rings after 6 months of dating. The shopping for engagement rings started at about that time and lasted for what seemed like forever (over 2 years)! In order to find the perfect ring with the perfect deal, we completely customized the ring. I knew what all of the bits and pieces looked like separately, but didn’t know what the final product would look like.
Every holiday or special occasion I expected to be proposed to. Ben let me know that it would be on the most unexpected day and in the most unexpected place…and it was! I can’t even tell you exactly what day it was but it all happened in the kitchen of my mom’s house… talk about unexpected! Though most people would want to be proposed to on the beach, or in a helicopter overlooking the Grand Canyon, my proposal was perfect for me. It reflected who Ben is…a truly simple and intimate man. I wouldn’t have had it any other way!” – Samantha
“In January 2014, I was scrolling through Facebook and stumbled upon a Facebook page called “Stark and Summit County Weddings”. Knowing that I had a wedding to plan and little money to spend, I scrolled through this page browsing used wedding items for sale. I came across an ad that encouraged Facebook users to enter a contest to win a free wedding. I looked at Ben and said, “How cool would that be?!” I don’t remember his response, or if he even gave one. It may have went something like, “Who wins a free wedding?” or “That’s totally a scam”. I applied anyways. At that point in our lives, Ben and I had gone through trials and tribulations, and I remember thinking to myself “something’s gotta give”.
I wrote a quick 5 minute essay with Ben in mind. He was my rock, my inspiration, my confidant. I loved this man more than I had ever loved any man in my life, and I had spent the past years watching him literally break down to build others back up. I wanted to win this wedding for him. On Valentine’s Day, I received a phone call at the crack of dawn from Jodi (from Ben and Jodi Photography–creator of Hitched) telling me that Ben and I were in the top 3 to win the wedding (they had already chosen us but wanted to wait to tell us until we met in person). I’m not sure if it was because I just woke up or because I was so incredibly excited (or both) but I squealed and couldn’t say a word. The rest of the story is caught on video! It was truly one of the best days of my life. A huge thanks and lots of love goes out to my wonderful Hitched team!” – Samantha
Samantha and Ben won the $30,000 wedding giveaway on Valentine’s day this past year. It was decided by all of the wedding professionals who are donating their services that out of 150 applicants they were the winners.
