Traditional details played a huge role in Ashley and Joe’s Philadelphia Christmas inspired wedding with lots of pearl accents, large chandeliers, and a long bar. The intricate details of the bride’s red, white, and green bouquet, lace-back dress and bridesmaids’ dresses played well into their Christmas-inspired color scheme.
Philadelphia Christmas Inspired Wedding
“Ashley and Joseph loved Christmas time since they finally got to spend time together. We wanted to bring that loving feel of Christmas to all of our guests. Philadelphia is where we met so we decided that was the right place. Cescaphe’s ballroom took Ashley’s breath away and the massive bar won Joseph over as well.”
“The couple knew that the 1000 miles apart was going to be a difficult for both of them. They wrote letters to each other weekly, and Facetimed every night engaging their favorite activity–the WSJ Crossword. Their love grew even stronger while so far away. Ashley was excited for Christmas time since Joseph would be able to come visit her in New Jersey. Little did she know their next chapter in life would be starting as she hugged Joseph at the airport.
On December 21, 2014, Ashley and Joseph tagged along with her family to get their Christmas tree. Joseph wanted to go to Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. Ashley at first was hesitant–she’s not an avid ice skater–but agreed to go. As they entered Penn’s Landing it was beautifully decorated for the season. Lights hanging everywhere, fireplaces in the lounge, and a gigantic tree sparking with icicles.
Joseph and Ashley entered the tent at the location that sold hot chocolate and apple cider. The two of them decided to enjoy a hot apple cider and find a secluded table near a fireplace. Joseph then pulled out a WSJ crossword for them to do while they sat there and enjoyed their cider. This was no ordinary crossword. Ashley and Joseph filled in the blocks to each puzzle entitled “Let’s Make a Team”. Ashley was scratching her head as she filled it in because one of the overarching clues had a clue that pertained to her college Montclair State. “Why would Montclair be in a WSJ,” she said. They filled in the top corners at first and finally moved to the bottom right corner.
After about an hour and a half of waiting for Ashley to finally figure out the answer to 92 across, “Question from one who’s played on all the newly formed teams in the puzzle’, it finally clicked to her what was happening. Joseph filled in the rest of the overarching clues they didn’t figure out together. They all had to do with Ashley and Joseph’s love story and finished off with 92 across “Will you marry me “. Joseph got down on one knee in the middle of Penn’s Landing and ask Ashley to marry him. She couldn’t wait to say yes!”
“Our wedding cake was a four tiered scene of us in a snowy field embracing. Joseph is allergic to our wedding cake so his Groom’s cake came from Sweet Freedom Bakery where it was part of the crossword puzzle that he proposed to me on.”
“We gave each guest beans of coffee to roast up. Their seating chart were ornaments that they could hang up on their Christmas tree. Girls also got flats from rescueflats.com”
Ashley’s Grandmother and Mom are very creative so they wanted to add a personal touch to the wedding. All of their centerpieces were created by her Mother and Grandmother. There were 3 styles a low wreath with candles, a lantern center piece, and a tall calendar with a candle on top filled with Christmas ornaments. Ashley’s mother also created beautiful invitations.
Family heirlooms/Special traditions
Passed grandmother and grandfather of Ashley wedding bands were carried by their nephew down the aisle. Ashley’s grandmothers engagement ring was her something borrowed. Bouquet toss and Garter toss. Speeches from MOH and Best Man Joseph’s father did a very nice blessing for us
Wedding Planning Advice
“It took us two years to plan our wedding and I couldn’t imagine spending less time on that. I would recommend in investing in a wedding planner/designer, even if your venue comes with a coordinator, to make sure the day runs smoothly and is part of every decision you make. Make sure you also get to know your band/DJ well.”
