Bonjour mes amis! I wanted to gladly sneak in a second post which is worth not-waiting for another day! We have Temi and Olly’s Oriental Hotel Lagos Engagement session that I quickly had to call dibs on once I spotted a few of them on my Facebook feed. Temi and I attended the same church when I lived in the DC area and her sister has appeared on Knotsvilla a couple of times (as a bride and as a wedding planner – RAE Affairs), bottom line, there was no way I was going to pass up on having Temi’s engagement session on the blog – you all know how I get when I feature people I actually know!
How they met (by Temi)
So I had traveled back home for a friend’s wedding last year July and was also working with a top Nigerian gospel artist at the time who also happens to attend my fiance’s church and is the music director of my fiance’s choir (yes we are both in the choir at our churches). During that period I had gone to his church on a Tuesday and was introduced to the pastor by the music director and was given the opportunity to minister that Sunday. That same day I was introduced to Olly and while waiting for service to start that evening, we struck up a conversation, which to be quite honest, I was enjoying. I remember thinking to myself he has a nice smile. But the truth of the matter is that Olly happened to be standing outside when the music director and I drove into church and he told me that he had spotted me from the moment the car drove in (I think he was smitten by me…or I guess that’s what you would call love at first sight lol) ….he says he decided to position himself correctly so that I would be introduced to him lol.
After our brief conversation I eventually had to leave, he asked for my number, I was excited…I gave it to him….he didn’t call till Saturday which I thought was odd because I caught him staring at me on Tuesday evening during the service. When he did call, I told him I would need his help recording me while I was ministering, he said sure. After ministering on Sunday, I spent a short while trying to get the clip off his phone but wasn’t successful, I had to leave because I had a plane to catch we said goodbye and I left. I know I felt a connection but I really didn’t want to think too much of it. After I got back, we talked on the phone all night….LITERALLY….We spoke about everything…..didn’t run out of things to talk about….we started dating a month after and still haven’t run out of things to talk about….one of the best decisions of my life so far!
“So Olly had reached out to one of my sisters when he was ready to purchase the ring. He also asked what my ring size was, so of course I knew the question was coming. I made sure I stressed over and over what I do NOT like and how he should NOT ask…..I didn’t want anything big, I didn’t want him asking at a restaurant, I didn’t want anyone else there except me and him….I wanted the question to be the only special thing in that moment.
I flew in Aug 30th and I told myself that starting tomorrow I must look nice and ready for whenever he decides to pop the question….Olly LOVES to surprise me. Nowhere in my mind did it occur to me that he might do it on the 30th especially cause he knew I expected it. I got in on the 30th he picked me up from the airport and I was super excited to see him. Over at the house we started talking about different things part of it being change. At some point he started talking about how I need to embrace change, I thought he was about to start lecturing me so I told him I needed to pack some food for him so he could go home.
He followed me into the kitchen, while I was looking in one of the cabinets, I guess he was getting set, I turned around and he was on his knees I screamed and told him “No I look a hot mess, I’m not ready not now” lol. When I realized it was really happening, I started crying I listened to all what he said then he said “will you be my wife please say yes”….I said Yes and he hugged me….he was shaking for at least 10 minutes lol ” – Temi
Advice for future couples planning for the same event (By Temi)
Olly and I had decided to do a couples shoot….my advice to future couples, Pintrest is your friend! LOL Also try to plan it together and find ways to incorporate your personality into the shoot. Choose the outfits ahead of time and any props you might be using, also choose a photographer whose style you love! And more importantly find ways to relax…I tend to be too serious sometimes so I had told Olly that I would need him to help me loosen up which he did.
Also be flexible, Olly and I had planned on doing a picnic shoot, we got all the props for the shoot which we ended up not doing and didn’t use any of the props…I told myself that what was important for the pictures was Olly and I….everything else was secondary!
