We’re in the mood for some wedding fun and today’s wedding is nothing short of that! Infused with German elements as homage to their German family and where they got engaged, Kristen and Matthew’s Oktoburgerfest themed wedding is the perfect intersection of culture and love.

The girls were dressed in dirndls (the traditional Bavarian style dress!) and the food had everything from brats to a surprise currywurst food truck, and lots of great beers! Everything was beautifully styled and personalized – all the way from the beer inspired Minted invitation through to their clever wedding hashtag: #oktoburgerfest!

Details of The Oktoburgerfest Themed Wedding

Our photographer, Marlayna, was absolutely fantastic. She made the day so much easier and was so much fun! She captured our intricate details of our German-inspired decorations, the venue, the food and drinks, our guests, and really caught the mood of our wedding. The German beer was flowing, and she braved our loud and messy toasts, group hugs, and sing-a-longs to get fantastic shots of everyone having a great time. She also caught the tender and special moments between us, our families, and friends.

During our ceremony, we used an authentic Nuernberg Wedding Cup to drink from and keep as a keepsake for our wedding. My sister read the story of the cup, while we poured Champagne and drank from it. The cup has a beautiful story, and is said to bring faithfulness, love, and good luck to our marriage. I keep it on display in our home and it’s a lovely reminder of our commitment to each other.

I wanted to make sure that Matt’s interests were included in our wedding planning and he happens to be a huge Star Wars fan. We had our Ringbearer (who is also a Star Wars fan) dress up like Darth Vader and played the “Imperial Death March” for him down the aisle for something fun and different. He stole the show! We also did a “light saber exit” with our guests for something fun as well. We had plenty of laughs and light saber fights after the wedding!

Matt’s parents surprised us with having the local German Restaurant “Prost” pull up in their food truck at the end of the night and provide a currywurst snack to our guests to soak up some of the alcohol in our guest’s bellies, and make sure everyone was full and happy on the way home. It was fantastic!

The bridesmaids looked absolutely gorgeous in the authentic Dirndls. I presented them each with custom embroidered handkerchiefs with a personal message on each one explaining how important they were to me and how much I appreciated them being there for our special day. Our groomsmen looked amazing in their German Alpine hats! They each received a keepsake laser etched beer stein as a special thank you for making our special day so magical.

I really want to say we had a fantastic photographer, Marlayna Photography, an amazing venue and venue operator, Jamie at Spring Hill Manor in Rising Sun, MD, and our caterer was an absolute rockstar – T&M Catering in Rising Sun, MD. And last but not least, our families and friends really made this wedding what it was. We couldn’t have done it without your help and support. I still look back on that day and smile ear to ear. It really was the best day of our lives!” – Kristen

Proposal Story

“We were visiting family in the Bavarian countryside in Germany and took part of the day to visit Schloss Neuschwanstein. We hoofed it all the way to the top of the mountain and shared a cup of warm mulled wine together while the snow flurries came down, and then started our tour of the castle.

Matt waited until the room cleared, gently pulled me aside in the kings’ bedroom chapel, and proposed. I was so stunned and excited I forgot to say “yes” until he asked me again over another glass of beer at the local restaurant!” – Kristen

Wedding Planning Advice

“It can all be very overwhelming, so take plenty of time out with your partner and make sure that you are enjoying the process, especially on your wedding day! Take a minute, breathe, and really appreciate the moments you have together.” – Kristen
