Melissa and Jason tied the knot last summer in the evening on the Oak Grove Farm in Beckley, West Virginia. Their oak grove farm wedding was full of details both country and nautical details we absolutely love!

More about the Oak Grove Farm Wedding

“Our families helped out tremendously. My dad built my arch, and my arrow signs. My maid of honor and brides maids helped make the rest of the signs that we used from wood my dad had laying around. My maid of honor made all of the bridesmaids and bride bouquet with flowers from Hobby Lobby. And there was so many more people that helped us that we are very thankful for. Basically, if you have friends and family that want to help, definitely let them because when it’s finally wedding day, you need all of the help you can get!

Also, we had our wedding later than most others do, but 7:00 pm happened to be the perfect time to take our wedding photos because we had the sunset! I was worried because it started to sprinkle as we took pictures, but our photographer was quick and wonderful, and we loved our photos! We even have a picture of us with the rainbow after the sprinkle.

My favorite moment from the shoot, and my absolute favorite picture is our “I Do” kiss. We decided at the last minute that we wanted to do a dip, and we’re so glad we did it. At first I was so nervous that I was going to fall, but I had to trust that he would catch me, and he did!” – Melissa

About the Couple

“We have known each other since middle school, and started dating our sophomore year of high school. When we graduated high school, he left for the Navy and I started Nursing school. We spent one year apart because he was stationed over seas in Bahrain. Then after he came home for leave from our year apart, he had to go back for six months until he came home on leave again, and that is when he proposed.

I walked into his home after being apart for 6 months, and there he was, down on one knee. It was definitely very unexpected, but I was so excited that I would finally marry my best friend/ high school sweet heart.” – Melissa

Wedding Planning Advice

“1. Pinterest is definitely the go to for cute DIY and if you’re on a limited budget.

2. Send RSVPs! I made the mistake of thinking we didn’t really need to send them, but when it came time to know how much food to buy we didn’t know how many would be there, so we wasn’t sure how much food to get!

3. Etsy is the go to for beautiful customizable wedding accessories and things such as invitations, garters, and alternative guests books.

4. Be prepared for rain or shine with an outdoor wedding! We almost had our wedding inside because it was starting to sprinkle, but we stuck it out and got to have it outside!”
