Irish Luck Wedding by Lola Snaps Photography

Because Knotsvilla is crazy about cultural and colorful weddings, Lola Snaps Photography thought we would happily accept and publish this wedding, and she was right! The bold Green in this wedding and the culture the color represents makes this Irish Luck Wedding everything and much more!

How They Met

“We met because of rowing. James was on the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) club team and I was a coxswain on the Old Dominion University team. I informed my boyfriend at the time, who was also on the VCU team, that they could really use someone who had real experience to help them. I was explaining the parts of the boat to a group of novice girls and he walked by and off handedly made a joke that only I heard. Everyone I talked to about him had nothing but funny stories to tell. Eventually, my boyfriend at the time decided it was time for us to split ways. I kept in contact with James and eventually we fell in love.” – Kelsey

About the Irish Luck Wedding

Kelsey and James had their wedding ceremony at the Bankuet Place with the reception at Havana ’59, both in Richmond, VA. Kelsey chose green and white as their colors for a few different reasons.

The couple got engaged on the 1st of March and Kelsey wanted a year engagement. She looked at the calendar and saw that the 14th was right after Friday the 13th (which is her mother’s birthday) the ides of March, both of which are supposedly unlucky. She saw the opportunity to make that day her lucky day and St. Patty’s day was right for a lucky theme; four leaf clover and the luck of the Irish.

Green and white worked perfectly for that as well as matching Kelsey’s emerald engagement ring, which is her birthstone. Kelsey’s vision for the wedding was a simple one. She wanted to choose places that stood up for themselves and only needed a little decor. They were trying to do this fairly inexpensively and wanted it to be pretty at the same time.

Kelsey’s mother played a tremendous part in organizing the ceremony and reception. She was her lady on the scene there in Virginia. Because Kelsey lives in New York, her mother would travel to different venues to scope out the scene and report back to her. Kelsey’s grandmother was also very helpful; she did most of the decorating at the Bankuet place and all of the bouquets.
