To wrap up the year, we have Kathryn and Charles’ Luxe Houston New Year’s Eve wedding was absolutely stunning! Each detail was thought through to create this chic, modern wedding. Flower walls to ghost chairs, plates and candelabras with a gold and black color palette created the perfect black-tie New Years Eve affair.
Houston New Year’s Eve Wedding
“I knew I always wanted to get married on New Years Eve, there was something I was drawn to about the glamour, glitz and romance to the day. When I thought about our personal style as a couple, I know I wanted to make it a modern-day affair with a touch of glitz.
After our engagement, we hit the ground running trying to find the perfect venue that matched our personal style and my dream of a New Year’s Eve wedding. We ended up at the Junior League of Houston since they had a plain ballroom that we could really do anything with and glamorous chandeliers that would highlight the sparkle of a New Year’s Eve wedding.
When I thought about colors, I knew that I was not a fan of colors, and therefore, my color palette was easy with a New Year’s Eve wedding – gold, black, and white. I am an event planner for a living and everything started to come together.”
“Charles and Kathryn went to Atlanta over the Thanksgiving holiday for the Georgia-Georgia Tech rivalry football game. On the way home from dinner the night before the game, Charles had the Uber driver take a detour on campus, where he proposed underneath Tech Tower: a significant landmark on Georgia Tech’s campus and a significant relationship marker, as Kathryn first took the leap and came to visit Charles after that initial Christmas Break they met.”
“Everyone tells you that you will try on all types of dresses and end up with something you never thought you would. Not me. I ended up with exactly the type of dress I always thought I would – a large ballgown. My favorite part of my dress– the fact that it was 2-pieces and the large skirt that allowed me to twirl around all day. I’d always wanted a big skirt and lots of sparkles, and I achieved just that. For the reception, I even added a sparkly belt for some added flair.
Charles is very particular about the fit of a tux. He decided to make sure he had a tux that he knew would fit just perfectly, and therefore, he chose a Ted Baker tux that was custom tailored. To add a bit of New Year’s Eve flair, he chose a midnight blue tux.
For my bridesmaids, I selected a sweetheart strapless gown that was full on gold sparkles, which was so fun for our theme. Our groomsmen all wore a black tux.”
“When I thought about decor for the wedding, I thought to myself how I was not a huge flower person and thought about how I could put together a beautiful wedding without a lot of florals. With the help of the amazing Richard Flowers at The Events Company, we came up with the perfect decor plan that incorporated a single flower at every seat at the table, and that was all the flowers on the tables. I was more into wanting clear candelabras and mirrored table tops instead of having linens.
For my bridal bouquet, I wanted simple but elegant white garden roses and hydrangeas with a lot of eucalyptus.”
Wedding favors – Edible
“For favors, we of course had mini bottles of champagne to ring in the New Year. We personalized the bottles with custom made stickers.”
“We included engagement photos throughout the space, as well as, one of my bridal portraits. We had a friend hand write all of our escort cards so they could be a beautiful gold ink on black cards. One of my favorite things we did was to have a customized program for the ceremony that had special details of our relationship, I was excited for everyone there to learn even more about our story. Etsy made any special wedding touches a breeze.”
