About the French Cafe Engagement

It’s one of those super exciting days where we get to feature local couples here in my city – 416! Sandra and Chris’ French engagement session is everything the name implies; cute, elegant and more! Sandra and Chris had their session at the Colette Grand Café a few months ago.

Sandra writes “Chris and I have had our fair share of macarons during our relationship, and we were immediately attracted to the beauty of this French-inspired cafe called Colette Grand Café. The natural lighting, beautiful arches and tones of blue made it feel like we were not in the city (Toronto) anymore! There was a bakery section lined up with delicious pastries, assortment of teas and decorated with miniature hot air balloons, a dining area beside floor-to-ceiling windows and a library area complete with bookshelves and comfy chairs. This allowed us to have different settings for our photographs all in one place. Jessilynn, our photographer, was great in getting us comfortable during our photo shoot. One favorite moment from the photo shoot was when we could finally eat those macarons!

Proposal Story

It was on a gorgeous weekend last June that Chris told Sandra that he had an appointment downtown, and that she could meet him afterwards so they could spend some time together. Unbeknownst to Sandra, he had a whole day planned for her to revisit all the spots they’ve visited that were memorable in their 3+ year relationship. When this was happening, Sandra felt like he was up to something but she still wasn’t sure what the occasion was. It wasn’t until Chris brought her to a fancy restaurant that they visited on their 1-year anniversary that Sandra realized that he was probably going to propose! After dinner, they took a nice stroll around a small neighborhood; unfortunately, Sandra started feeling very ill and she had to go home much to Chris’ disappointment.

Fast forward to a few months later, and Chris and Sandra went hiking on a cool autumn day. Eventually, they stopped at a clearing and chatted there for a bit until Chris went down on one knee…and presented a wrapped gift box to her saying that it was his belated anniversary gift to her. Sandra opened the box to find a cute vinyl toy character with a ring around its arm. (The vinyl character was similar to the first gift Chris had bought Sandra before they started dating.) It was all nervous laughter between them as Chris proposed, to which Sandra finally said yes!

Engagement Session Advice

“Ask your photographer to suggest some locations for your engagement shoot if you don’t already have a place in mind. It is most likely that they’ll know someplace that matches exactly what you are looking for! We wouldn’t have known about this café if it had not been for our photographer!” – Sandra
