Carolyn and Lou tied the knot a few months ago in their Key West Florida Beach Wedding with Megan Ellis Photography present to capture it in all it’s beauty. Knowing that Knotsvilla loves to fuss about beach weddings ( you can see that here), it was an easy decision to accept this beautiful beach wedding submission for publication.
Their ceremony and reception were both held at the gorgeous Fort Zachary Taylor Beach in Key West, Florida. After sunset, the couple, their family and friends had the park to themselves. They danced under the stars and hung out by a bonfire on the beach!
How They Met
The couple met at the Jersey shore, where they both vacation during the summer. Carolyn caught Lou’s eye at a party, but left before he had the chance to introduce himself. A week later, Carolyn was out on a blind date that wasn’t going well so she left that date and met up with her friends at a bar, where Lou was hanging out with some mutual friends.
From there, he officially introduced himself, asked for her phone number and the rest is history! The pair went out on their first date a few days later.
The Wedding Planning Process
Carolyn planned their wedding in Key West from Philadelphia, so her biggest piece of advice is to “trust online reviews and do a lot of research”. She compared many different wedding planning companies, catering companies, photographer’s, etc. “Decide what the most important things are for you and budget a little more for that category.” Carolyn added.
Planning a destination wedding, Carolyn didn’t have a lot of the stress that couples have when they’re planning a local wedding as most things were done over the internet. Also being a laid back person, she trusted the wedding planning company when it came to details like the flowers and decor.
Another recommendation, that actually came from Megan Ellis, her photographer, was to make a pinterest board of photos Carolyn loved and would want to capture and then share the board with Megan. It all worked out well as Carolyn confirmed that Megan Ellis definitely paid attention and helped to create those moments.
Favorite Wedding Moment
“My favorite moment was the first look photos. I was so excited to see Lou and even though I had an amazing morning getting ready with my girls, it felt really strange not to be able to talk to him about how excited I was. I walked by the groomsmen, not even noticing that there had been a “groomsmen swap”, because one of the groomsmen was missing in action. I was so focused on Lou and what his first words would be.
I love how Megan caught the moment, and gave minimal instructions, just letting us do our thing. I also loved the photo shoot on the beach by the bonfire. Megan was very realistic and said “I have no idea how these will turn out, but let’s give it a try”.
The best details of the wedding were surprises, like the flowers and the centerpieces. I had picked out the “open seating” sign and the card box from etsy and I love that I have those now, as reminders of our wedding day.” – Carolyn
