Bridget grew up with Lewis & Clark College as her backyard playground, so when James proposed, it made perfect sense to get married there. The couple opted for a boho chic garden wedding and for thier big day, Katy Haley of Bridal Bliss accomplished just that.
Boho Chic Garden Wedding
A circular arch dripping in greenery and floral surrounded the couple as they said their vows in a ceremony performed by James’ father. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour around the reflection pond while also enjoying the grounds the college has to offer, with stunning views of Mt. Hood to boot.

“Even before we were officially engaged we had started talking about what we’d want our wedding to look like. Originally we thought we’d want something more casual and low-key. But then my sister and I realized we could get married at the Lewis & Clark Estate Gardens when we were driving by it one day and James and I loved the idea.
Lewis & Clark is essentially in my parents backyard and it is a very sentimental location for me and my family. My siblings and I grew up walking through the campus, playing with our dogs, and in the ravine between our house and the campus. Turns out James used to swim in their (freezing cold) pool as a kid with his grandmother so we became determined to book our wedding there.
The garden is so beautiful and really drove the aesthetic for the wedding, especially the green, coral and blue. The color scheme reflect the natural surroundings of the garden and the beautiful skyline. The garden definitely gives off a very elegant vibe and we consider ourselves more the “casual cool” types so we thought boho look would would be a perfect blend of the more swanky garden vibe and our laid back attitudes.”
“During an unseasonably warm February Saturday we decided to go on one of our favorite little hikes just north of Edmonds. This is one of our favorite little secret beaches to go to on Puget Sound and it’s just a short hike down through the trees. We had done this many times before and I wasn’t expecting anything. When we got down to the water James decided he wanted to take some “cute” selfies and I remember him acting all weird (which I now realize he was super nervous).
Out of nowhere he disappeared from my line of sight and I realized he was down on one knee. I slapped him across the face (lightly — and in jest!) because I was so surprised. Obviously I said yes. We celebrated with beers at American Brewing (another reason we like to go up to Edmonds) and called family with our happy news!”
“I knew I wanted something comfortable (see: laid back) and easy to wear that had a boho vibe to it. I loved the high neck of the Tadashi Shoji for BHLDN dress and the way it showed off the shoulders. It was one of the first dresses I tried on and loved it immediately. I adored the floral lace as well. It was so comfortable and handled some of my more extreme dance moves swimmingly.
James is not the tux type and we decided a blue suit would be a fun choice for the summer wedding. Plus it would look so good with his bright blue eyes and really pop with all the greenery in the garden. The Brooks Brother suit was made from a thin breathable fabric that was perfect for the warm July weather.
We found his tie at Nordstrom and it was perfect with the coral flowers and navy background. We also decided on a light blue shirt instead of white, it just looked so nice with that bright blue hue.”
Moments and Memories
“We wrote our own vows and we loved reading them to each other and in front of everyone we love. That was so special to us. As well, we were so grateful for all of our family that was involved in the ceremony and the reception. James’s dad Ralph was our officiant.
My 93 year old grandmother read 1 Corinthians. And all the toasts from my dad, sister, James’s brother, and one of my best friends during the reception were perfect – funny, sweet, and thoughtful. Of course I think my favorite part really was just dancing the night away in pure joy!”
“The table settings were all vintage inspired. We had mix and match vintage plates, vintage flatwear and glasses. We left it a little rustic as well by nixing a table cloth and covering the tables with varying sized potted greenery and flowers. We just wanted it to look very lush and green like a boho garden dream!
My favorite photos were definitely the “first look” photos when it was just us prior to the ceremony. I loved seeing him all done up in his blue suit. We were just so happy and it was nice to have that moment of sweetness and calm before the formal photos and the ceremony.”
DIY, handmade, Personal details
“All of the escort cards were small, single assorted flowers with guests names in vintage medicine bottles or old ink pots, in shades of blue. Those were also gifts for guests to take home.”
“Honestly, we owe it all to our AMAZING planner Katy Haley at Bridal Bliss. None of this would have happened without her!!”
