Blue Classic Illinois Wedding | Mager Image Photography

So bold, so beautiful is Maisie and Dylan’s Blue Classic Illinois wedding. With the knot tied at the cathedral in university of Illinois and the reception in a hotel ballroom, their wedding was lit with fun details and  full of personality.

Blue Classic Illinois Wedding

When: Aug 12th 2017 | Where: Champaign, IL | Theme: Classic | Colors: Blue

“For me I didn’t have a vision until it all came together at the end. The most common theme I pulled from my Pinterest boards was an “elegant” wedding. Originally I wanted my wedding colors to be mint and navy blue, but that just didn’t feel right.

I suddenly found an image on Pinterest that was a light blue, with accents of gold, champagne, light pink, and light peach. I was sold! And since my wedding was in August, those were perfect soft summer colors.

Our ceremony was in a beautiful church on campus at the University of Illinois. We didn’t have to decorate much for the ceremony, just some white tulle at the end of the pews, and flower arrangements in stunning vases through the church. The reception was held in a ballroom in a hotel. This was important to us, as we wanted our guests to be able to have the best time and have a convenient place to stay!”

Proposal Story

“Dylan is on our towns volunteer fire department. Every year the fire department puts on a fun fundraiser to raise money for equipment. That morning while he was at the fire house setting up for the event, he asked his uncle, who is the fire chief, if it would be ok if he proposed before the raffle started. His response was “Oh wow, that would be kick “butt”. First time something like this has happened at this event!”. My father was there too and he asked his permission. Of course he said yes. My dad made a plan to get my mother there without her knowing what was going on. He also was able to get my mother and brothers there too!

So the time comes for the raffle to get started, and I am running around getting ready to help with raffle. I walk up to the front where Dylan’s uncle gives a warm welcome speech and draws the last ticket to go on our boards. Sitting in the front row is my whole family. At this moment, I am still not expecting anything and very oblivious.

After Dylan’s uncle is done speaking, he announces that his nephew had a few words he would like to say. At that moment, before Dylan took the microphone, I knew and tears were instant. Dylan said the sweetest things and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him in front of 800 people. A moment I will never forget that was shared with my family and friends!”

Wedding Attire

“I had several dress appointments at many different bridal dress stores. I didn’t have an exact image of what I wanted my dress to be, which made it super hard. I was trying on many different styles and liking a lot of them.

During the last few appointments, I figured out I did want a mermaid style and wanted the double horsehair braid trim on the skirt. It was so hard to find back in 2016, and now a year later I am seeing it everywhere! Ha. I found the dress and was absolutely perfect!

After I figured out my wedding colors, I knew I wanted my bridesmaids in light blue. I also personally prefer long dresses over short! When we went dress shopping I had all my bridesmaids try on different styles and let them pick which one they felt most comfortable in. It was important to me that they liked the dresses and felt great in them too! After all, they are the ones paying for them and wearing them! Ha!

For the groom, groomsmen, father of the bride, and ushers I was set on navy tuxes from the start. However, something I did that was different for me was instead of having a white button up undershirt with a colored vest, I went with a light blue button up shirt with navy ties and navy vests! They looked so sharp.

Mother of the bride and groom were told they could get whatever color dress they wanted. I wanted them to feel special and love what they were in that day because it is about the parents too. Flower girls I wanted in champagne colored dresses and we were able to find dresses that had fluffy tulle bottom and the girls loved them!”

Moments & Memories

“Oh my… how could I pick a favorite?! We both agreed the one of our favorite and most humbling part of the day was reading each other’s letters in the morning before the ceremony. It helped take away some jitters and add excitement to see each other at the front of the church to become husband and wife. The morning was so much fun.

Getting ready with the best friends I could ask for, my mother, mother in law, and best make-up artists and hairstylists ever! Snacking on yummy foods and delicious mimosas was the cherry on top of the morning.

Doing a first look with my dad was a must! Seeing my dad for the first time before we walked down the aisle was a moment I had been waiting for all morning. I saw how proud my Dad was of me and happy for me and Dylan through his happy tears. It will be a moment I will never forget and thankful I have amazing pictures that captured the happiness.

Seeing Dylan at the end of the aisle as I entered the room was a moment where I had all sorts of emotions. But it was of course one of my favorites. There were many people in the room but oddly enough, for me, it felt like it was just us two!

Another favorite part for both of us was celebrating with the bridal party on the party bus and walking into the reception to celebrate with the rest of our family and friends. We were so excited to finally be Mr. & Mrs. and celebrate. We had the best evening dancing the night away. We both loved the amazing speeches given by the maid of honor, best man, and of course, the father of the bride. We felt so grateful to have these three speak so highly of Dylan and I’s relationship and share some funny moments we have had through out the year.”

Wedding Flowers

“I had an amazing florist, Sheila! She did an outstanding job with the bouquets, boutonnieres, and alter table unity candle piece. I wasn’t picky about what type of flower, just mostly the colors. I wanted lots of greenery, and white flowers, with hints of light peach and pinks to accent. I was able to send her several Pinterest ideas and she took care of the rest.

I had another amazing florist, Tammie, who helped put together my amazing silk flower arrangements in my beautiful vases for the church and reception, and for the center pieces at the reception. I made one attempt to do the arrangements myself, but I knew she would have the magic touch. These again had a good amount of greenery and white flowers with touches of light pink and light peach”

Wedding Cake

“Having a wedding cake was very important to my mother. And we both loved the simple look with different textures on each layer. The outside was a cream color with a pearl glaze. For the cake flavors we had red velvet, lemon with raspberry filling – my favorite!, chocolate, and vanilla. Our cake was gone! Everyone loved it. Thank you Cakes by Lori!

We also had delicious cupcakes by Dawn Glad. She is from my hometown and rocks at making delicious cupcakes. The flavors consisted of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and snickerdoodle. Yum!

We also had additional item for dessert that was a surprise for my grandfather. He absolutely loves Jarling’s Custard, a place located in Champaign, IL. We were able to get individual cups of Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and lemon frozen custard.

Everyone was so excited and loved having it at the reception for dessert My grandfather so was happy! And Dylan and I were pretty excited to have some leftover frozen custard when we got back from our honeymoon.”

Wedding Favors – Non Edible

“For favors we had personalized can koozies for beverages and different flavors of popcorn. Dawn Long makes super yummy popcorn and is also another hometown vendor! The popcorn was a great snack for before and after the reception. We had caramel, kettle corn, and salted butter.”

Wedding Planning Advice

“My advice would be to get as much done in the first few months as you possibly can. That way you have some time to look at the bigger picture and focus on the finishing touches with out stressing and wanting to pull your hair out. Vendors can be booked out a year in advance, so you’ll need to jump on the planning to get the date you want and book your vendors/venues.

Also, our engagement was a year and two months long. We had been together for 7 years and could have set a date a lot earlier, but we wanted to be able to save money and pay for a good portion of the wedding ourselves.”
