Roaring 2020 Great Gatsby Wedding Inspiration | Kitchener, ON

As the roaring 2020’s are fast approaching, it’s time to pay homage and draw inspiration from the days of flappers and jazz. To update our vintage inspiration, the team put together this 2020 Great Gatsby wedding shoot, a modern light and airy touch, and kept to a soft pink and gold color palette with only touches of drama.

The creative team wanted this shoot to feel like an invitation to the swankiest party in town. And even though a wedding may be one of the most special days, we must never forget to party like Gatsby.

Roaring 2020 Great Gatsby Wedding Inspiration

“The Walper Hotel was the perfect historical location. The iconic 1893 landmark is the epicenter of one of Kitchener, Ontario’s oldest neighborhoods, now a hub of vibrant growth, partly due to the buzzing tech scene of the Waterloo-Toronto Tech Corridor. We used the Crystal Ballroom for its extravagant chandeliers and wall detailing that resembled that vintage art deco that was so popular in the 1920s. The Lokal, a smart space that inspires creativity by day, and a buzzing entertainment lounge by night, was the perfect spot to bring in the dramatic touches of the Great Gatsby. The grand piano, the bar, and the black and gold detailing on the staircase and light fixtures created a vibe that partnered the vintage & modern together so well.”

Describe your flowers.

The twenties were a time of abundance and exuberance. People were testing their limits, really defying tradition. The florals, especially the bouquet, was a reflection of that; over the top, super dramatic, an exaggeration in every way -fitting for the carefree attitude of the ’20s.

Describe your cake.

The detailing on the cake was designed to resemble art deco arches. The cake was done in pink and white buttercream, keeping to the light and airy vision for the shoot. Pearls, feathers, and a large flower were added to the cake to resemble the hairpieces that were so popular in the flapper girl world!

Tell us about your attire choices.

We wanted a gown that just hinted the 20’s theme, and Rosa Clara’s Caytlin gown was a perfect fit. The subtle sequin and beading detail in the all-over lace design gave the gown that vintage flapper feel. The gown has a classic 20’s body-hugging fit, perfect for making the most of our model’s gorgeous curves, trailing into a mermaid tail finish.  Our model’s accessories were carefully chosen to showcase the mix of the ’20s colliding. All pieces are from Blair Nadeau’s bridal line. The Ioanna hair chain and Lela pearl necklace added to the vintage and classy look for our model, while the Iliana baby’s breath earrings added a touch of modern.

Please describe any DIY, handmade or personal details.

Trying to incorporate the black and gold theme while still keeping everything light, a glass and gold jewelry box was used as the invitation! It was very unique – reflective of the dramatic, yet still very modern.

Describe the tablescape elements.

Champagne and martinis were a feature that we wanted to incorporate – hence the bar we used at the Lokal! Our calligrapher put a beautiful twist to showcase the classy beverages! The place cards were created to hang off of the champagne flutes, creating a very elegant, unique place setting. It tied in beautifully with the dark chairs (provided by The Walper Hotel), the gold wired chargers (provided by AWE events), and the gold cutlery (provided by ABC Party Rentals) – a touch of elegant, drama, art deco, and modernism!
