This day last year, Everything Weddings And More was no more and Knotsvilla was birthed as a brand new wedding blog. To say it has been a “good” year might be under estimating how far this blog has come and what it has achieved in the year 2014; it was definitely an awesome year! It may not have felt like it every step of the blogging way but sitting here and looking at how it all turned out I can confidently say Knotsvilla has grown and really been a source of joy and inspiration for me this year.
“KV surely challenged me in ways I never expected; project management, creative writing, networking and more. Skills that laid dormant in me and I never had a chance to explore or strengthen them.”
Personally, quite a few grand changes were made to my life, like the move from Chicago to Toronto. With that move came an unexpected opportunity of having to run Knotsvilla full time and though it was not always fun, I appreciate the challenge and the success it brought me and my family.
In this year I have been able to dream big in regards to this blog; dreaming above it just being a hobby. KV surely challenged me in ways I never expected; project management, creative writing, networking and more. Skills that laid dormant in me and I never had a chance to explore or strengthen them.
In this journey of transitioning a hobby to something more, of course there have been hard times when I’ve been hurt by my high expectations. Somehow as humans we expect our friends to see our vision and help “it”, but reality sets in when you figure out that would not always be the case. Either because they aren’t convinced of this “new venture” or they are just occupied with their own things. But it is okay, I’ve learned that you don’t really need all your friends to “get” your vision, you just need a few who will radically run with it – your vision/purpose mate.
In this year of transition, I discovered mine – my husband. His enthusiasm for this blog is not only inspiring but challenging, and who doesn’t love a good challenge? A challenge to be better at all things KnotsVilla; from curating the posts, to actually writing them and sharing them. Heck, he gave me a new blogging schedule that worked like a charm!
“Don’t count on everyone to “get” your vision or even understand it, once you are convinced of it yourself, the right people would seek you out to help you when and where needed.”
At the end of the day, KnotsVilla has given me an opportunity for personal growth and development; these are definitely the major areas I count my successes in and for that I’d be forever grateful.
To those wanting to try something new and explore a passion of theirs, whether it is as a side gig or something you hope to go into full time, I say: take that leap of faith and just do it. You don’t have to figure it all out before you start, to an extent, the fun is in figuring it out as you go. Don’t count on everyone to “get” your vision or even understand it, once you are convinced of it yourself, the right people would seek you out to help you when and where needed. This 2015, make it count, jump in and just do it.
Cheers to the new year and praying for an even more awesome year for KnotsVilla and her readers!Gianna “Gee” Asaam Editor-in-Chief
